Dear BPW Colleagues, |
| |

Appreciation.
Appreciation is key to a happy life. When we are appreciating,
we are at a higher level of our true self. Positive thought can
take us to happy places and good feelings instantly. We face
many challenges and decisions every day, and many times we get a
sick feeling from knowing we have those choices to make.
The next time you have a difficult situation with a loved one or
a co-worker, spend five minutes in appreciation of them. Write
down all the good you see in them, the nice things they have
done, and the positive aspects you see in them, and then you
will find that your mood will change with them.
Use this technique any time you feel frustrated or rushed. It
will make a world of difference in the way people look at you,
the way you react to any given situation, and in your own self
confidence.
As professional business women, we have a self image of what we
stand for. This technique can help you in the board room, with
subordinates, and with family. Use it often and with passion.
You will be amazed at the success it will bring to you.
Sincerely,
Barb Tremlett
President

State Stats |
| |

As a follow-up to last month's Equal Pay Day meeting, Tammy
Leocata, Immediate Past President of BPW NH, submitted the
following article that recently appeared in NH Magazine.
Although women's representation among full-time workers in the
state has increased from 27 percent, increases in women's
earnings, business ownership and decision-making responsibility
have lagged behind their increased participation in the labor
force and their advances in education.
Full-time working women aged 23-30, with four-year college
degrees, earned 68 percent of what their male counterparts
earned on average. Among 31 to 44-year- old full-time working
college graduates, females earned 65 percent of the average
male.
Women with children of any age, and particularly women with
children under 6, tended to replace full- time employment with
part-time or exit the labor force. Although more than 71 percent
of women without children were employed full-time in 1999,
full-time employment for women with young children dropped to
about 50 percent.
When women did return to the full-time labor force, the data
show that they suffered an economic penalty for taking the lead
role in family care.
Nationally, the average for women-owned business is 26 percent.
New Hampshire is 44th on the list, with only 23.6 percent of
women-owned businesses.

In honor of Mother's Day month, the Greater Nashua BPW is
excited to present "Women/Mothers Putting Their Lives on the
Line at Work" at our May luncheon.
Three women, all in non-traditional roles, will educate and

motivated in order to serve us while putting their lives on the

Join Traci Dunne, Hollis Police Department, Sharron Hill-Filteau,
