Dear BPW Colleagues, |
| |

Another year has begun and along with it comes planning and
resolutions for the new year. As your President, I resolve to
continue to provide our membership and guests with quality
meetings and opportunities to form new relationships with other
working women. In order to facilitate this, it would be helpful
if everyone invited one guest to our meeting. This would help
let other women become familiar with our organization, enjoy
educational speakers and meet other professional women.
January we had a panel of speakers, Colleen O'Connell, an Estate
Planning Attorney, Carolyn Madden, CPA and me, Financial
Planner. We discussed the importance of planning for your
future, including retirement and in the area of estate planning.
We also discussed tax issues that can be of benefit to you and
how these types of advisors can help you meet your goals.
In honor of Valentine's Day, at the February meeting we will
hear from a young stroke survivor from the American Heart
Association. She will be presenting information on the
importance of taking care of yourself and ways to prevent heart
problems. In honor of her and other women and your heart we
would like everyone to wear red.
The Board continues to look for members that want to be more
involved with the organization and join the Board. We are
looking for someone for Vice- President, and to take over the
Presidency next fall. There are also openings on Membership,
Programs, and a new Community Service committee.
The Board voted to sponsor women at the Adult Learning Center to
help them receive their GEDs. This money will be raised through
raffles, sponsorships, and other fund raising activities.
Further information will be provided.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the 3rd Thursday each month
and bring a friend! I look forward to seeing you there.
Respectfully Submitted,
Susan Weidner Cooke
President

Notes from the Secretary |
| |

The November/December Greater Nashua BPW Board meeting was held
on December 4th. The following topics were discussed.
- It was felt that in accordance with our mission, the
chapter needs to take a more active role in giving back to the
community. Any member with a recommendation on how that might
be accomplished is welcome to submit a suggestion. Suggestions
should be specific and include who, why, what, when, where,
and how. The board will be considering recommendations at the
January board meeting.
- We will be contacting State and other local chapters to
see if they are interested in sharing a booth with us at the
Women's Expo in February.
- There will be several positions open on the board for the
2009-2010 term as members who have served several consecutive
terms retire. The 2009 - 2010 term begins in July. Anyone
interested in participating is encouraged to contact Susan C.
or speak with any board member.
January board meeting was held on 22nd.

Membership Committee
By Julia Manlogon
The Membership Committee is pleased to announce the following
new member.
Kym Feltovic - Licensed Massage Therapist
Membership Awards
Beginning in September and running until May, the Membership
Committee will be keeping close track of how many guests members
bring to meetings and how many of those guests become members.
In June, awards will be given out to the winning members. An
award will also be given to the newest member that has been most
active with BPW. Greater Nashua BPW will recognize the woman who
has been the member the longest and those members who have a
five year and ten year membership history. The Committee will
include a non-member award to be given to the woman in the
community that has promoted women in the workplace.
All members are encouraged to participate by bringing guests to
every meeting. On your mark, get set, go get those friends and
colleagues to come to one of our great meetings. As for our new
members, there are many committees and short term projects that
could use your help and skills. The winners will receive awards
that will be desired by all!
The Membership Committee meets after the Thursday meetings.
Please see any of the members for more information. Julia
Manlogon, (Committee Chairperson membership@bpwnashua.com ),

As you know, BPW Nashua is a member of the Greater Nashua Chamber
of Commerce. It has recently come to our attention that this is
a limited membership. Our Chamber contact has forwarded their
official policy on member organizations and non-profits.
It is as follows: "For non-profit organization and
membership organizations with paid staff, the Chamber's membership
benefits are extended to all members of the paid staff. For non-
profit organizations and membership organizations without a paid
staff, the Chamber's membership benefits are extended to the
organization's Board of Directors only, for their term in office
only. The organization is requested to provide the Chamber with an
up-to-date listing of their Board on an annual basis." Please
accept our apologies for any confusion.
